Why Unisoft one?
Bed sores and healthcare acquired infections (HAIs) are top concerns for patients and caregivers in every healthcare facility, from the hospital to the home. The Unisoft One mattress is designed to address both.
Many factors contribute to the formation of pressure ulcers (also known as bed sores or decubitus ulcers) including moisture and interface pressure. Interface pressure is the force created between the patient and support surface. As this force increases, blood flow is restricted, which can lead to tissue breakdown and eventually cause a pressure ulcer.
The principle of alternating pressure therapy is simple; an air pump cycles the air through the interior air chambers of the mattress; as one set of chambers inflates, the other set deflates. Thus the interface pressure between the patient and the mattress continuously changes.
There are other mattresses available that claim to be “alternating pressure;” however our extensive testing has shown that many of these mattresses either don’t alternate, or if they do, over-inflate, creating areas of excessively high interface pressure.
Unisoft provides remarkable "low pressure, alternating pressure" because its materials, design and pump are unique.
The Unisoft One air cells are made from flexible thin-film polyethylene, and the design features integral, connected air chambers powered by a proprietary low-pressure pump. The Unisoft One mattress is significantly more stable, responsive and comfortable than other mattresses. The patented two-part cover wicks moisture away from the patient, keeping skin dry.
The design and underlying technology embodied in the UniSoft SPU are protected by an extensive patent portfolio and trade secrets.
Unisoft helps prevent healthcare associated infection.
Mattresses in healthcare facilities may be 5 years or older, which means in effect that hundreds of patients are sharing the same bed.
Ample evidence exists of the inadequacy of cleaning and inspection procedures, including a Safety Alert published by the FDA that warns about the dangers of contaminated mattresses.
Disease outbreaks in healthcare facilities linked to dirty mattresses are also on the rise (studies and abstracts can be viewed by clicking on our Research tab.)
Despite healthcare facilities’ best efforts to clean reusable mattresses between patients, numerous studies show that surface cleaning often just moves germs around, or worse, weakens the mattress cover allowing germs to infiltrate the interior of the mattress and multiply.
For these reasons, the Unisoft One is the best way to protect patients from cross contamination from dirty mattresses: for the first time, healthcare facilities and caregivers have a cost-effective means of providing every patient with a guaranteed clean mattress.
